Roles, turns, and victory
Hidden roles: find out who you are
In the five-player mode, roles are assigned at random: one Leader, two Guards, one Challenger, and one Wanderer. Your role stays visible beside your hero's name in the player area. The Leader's role is public; other roles are revealed when eliminated. The Wanderer is revealed when either faction reaches its objective; surviving Guards are also revealed if the Leader side reaches its objective.
- Leader and Guards: protect the Leader and eliminate all Challengers.
- Challengers: defeat the Leader. If the Leader falls while a Challenger remains, the Challenger side takes the lead.
- Wanderer: act independently and try to be the last hero standing. When either faction reaches its objective, the endgame continues: the Wanderer is revealed and receives a survival boost. The Wanderer wins alone by outlasting everyone; if eliminated, the leading faction wins.
Turn sequence
- At the start of your turn, draw 2 cards and resolve ongoing effects.
- Play cards and use up to one active skill. You can normally make one Strike per turn; skills may change this limit or its damage.
- End your turn and discard down to your current health. At 0 health, a hero is eliminated and their hidden role is revealed.

Cards and defense
- Strike: deal 1 damage to a legal opponent. The target may play Guard to cancel it.
- Scheme: make a target discard a card; if they have no cards, deal 1 damage instead.
- Special cards: 22 idiom-inspired cards have individual effects, shown on each card.
- Remedy: restore 1 health; in team mode, you may heal an ally.
- Armor: cancel the next damage. Guard Stance cancels 1 damage and stacks up to 3.
Other modes
- Free-for-all: 3–8 heroes; the last survivor wins.
- Three Kingdoms Teams: six heroes form two balanced teams of three. Eliminate the entire opposing team to win.
- Hero Duel: 1v1; defeat the opponent to win.
- From round 20 onward, heroes lose 2 health at the start of their turn. Armor and Guard Stance cannot prevent this.
